The contract for the fabrication and erection of the roof steelwork for the main stand was awarded to the Group by the general contractor Ssyangyong Engineering. The roof trusses were approximately 100 tonnes each.

Due to the proximity of the basement excavation, a large long reach crawler crane was required. It was hired from Europe and shipped to Singapore especially for this job. The 450-tonne crane coupled with superlift spent about 3 months on site whilst the main roof member were fixed.

The specification required that 2 Roof Trusses be subjected to a load test in excess of the ultimate load. The test was carried out on a specially designed rig with the trusses laid in the horizontal position on sliding plates to act as lateral restraints.

Independent witnesses from NUS were Prof. Shanmugam / Dr Richard Liew. Provision of Testing equipment and application of load by VSL Singapore.
