The Singapore Post Centre project involved one of the largest basement excavations to be carried out in Singapore in recent years. During the excavation of 3 basement levels through very poor soil conditions, it was of foremost importance to hold the excavation's side walls in place.
The proximity of the MRT line and station also necessitated further precautions and safety measures to be undertaken. For these safety reasons, the design and erection of the strutting system was highly critical. The Group employed the services of 2 consulting firms to establish the design. 8,000 tonnes of steelwork from Europe was purchased to fabricate the modular system for the strutting of this project.
Following completion of the basement construction the Superstructure was commenced by Penta Ocean LKH.J.V. The superstructure comprised reinforced concrete and structural steelwork. The main sports hall which was suspended above the roof was a steel structure provided and installed by Yongnam. The vertical jacking of the structure was carried out by VSL Singapore.
